The A's re-signed Kiko Calero to a one-year deal Thursday, one day after being non-tendered by the team. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Calero had a down 2007 season, posting a 5.75 ERA in 46 games.

Kiko Calero was not tendered a contract by the A's on Wednesday, making him a free agent. Calero is coming off a down year in which he constantly dealt with elbow problems, but he still has the skills to be a solid middle reliever when healthy.

Kiko Calero hasn't appeared in a game since Aug. 25. He's still dealing with the shoulder problem that has plagued him for months, according to the Contra Costa Times. "I felt better maybe for one week, but it came back," Calero said. "I didn't want them to put me on the DL again (and the team to think) 'What's going on?'" He hasn't even thrown in several days, so it's possible he may not take the mound again this season.

The A's activated Kiko Calero from the 15-day disabled list on Friday, according to the AP. He had been sidelined since June 17 because of inflammation in his right shoulder. Calero is 1-4 with a 6.39 ERA in 31 relief appearances with the A's this year.

The results from Kiko Calero's simulated game Thursday were good enough that there is a chance the reliever will be activated from the DL today. "I feel good," Calero said in the Mercury News. "I feel like I have a very loose arm right now." Pitching coach Curt Young said there is a "slim chance" Calero would be activated today, but it appears he will definitely be activated at some point this weekend.

Kiko Calero will pitch in a simulated game today and could be activated Friday or Saturday. It was originally thought that Calero, who is recovering from shoulder inflammation, would be out until after the break, according to the Mercury News.

Kiko Calero (right shoulder inflammation) played catch Tuesday and could return shortly after the All-Star break, the AP reports.
June 25, 2007
The A's placed Kiko Calero on the 15-day disabled list on Monday with an inflamed shoulder, according to the AP. He will be examined by team doctors when the club returns home on July 2 from their current road trip.

It's possible that Kiko Calero could be placed on the disabled list in the near future. He said yesterday that he's been battling shoulder tendinitis for six weeks, according to the Contra Costa Times. "We'll decide if he can pitch (today against Cleveland)," manager Bob Geren said. "If not, we may have to do something there." Calero's 6.39 ERA probably has already forced him out of most fantasy lineups. Maybe some rest would do him some good.

Kiko Calero was given a chance to close Wednesday but couldn't get the job done, allowing two runs to the Royals in the top of the ninth. Calero worked in the eighth inning the previous night, with Alan Embree eventually blowing that lead in the ninth.

Kiko Calero signed a $1.6 million, one-year contract with the A's on Tuesday, according to the AP. He led the A's with a career-high 70 appearances last season, going 3-2 with two saves, a career-high 67 strikeouts and a 3.41 ERA.
