Jon Garland agreed to a three-year, $29 million contract with the White Sox to avoid arbitration, according to the Chicago Tribune. The move decreases the likelihood that Garland will be traded to make room for Brandon McCarthy.

Jon Garland pitched a four-hit shutout on Sunday for the second time in as many starts. He struck out a season-high six. Garland also improved to 5-0 and is the first pitcher in the American League to win five games.
