Adam Kennedy underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage in his right knee on Tuesday and will be sidelined the rest of the season, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It was originally thought that he would be sidelined for only 2-4 weeks.

The Cardinals placed Adam Kennedy on the DL Sunday with a torn medial meniscus in his right knee. Kenneday, who is hitting a paltry .219 this year, is expected to miss 4-6 weeks of action, which could put his return this season in doubt. Brendan Ryan was recalled from Triple-A Memphis to take his spot on the roster.

Adam Kennedy was out of the lineup for the fourth straight game Tuesday, the AP reports. Scott Spiezio has spelled Kennedy the last two games. Tony La Russa said he plans on starting Kennedy (.211 average) Thursday in the final game of the three-game set with the Royals.

Adam Kennedy skipped his at-bats during Monday's game, resting what he called an ache near his ribcage, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Kennedy said it was nothing serious. "It's not too bad," Kennedy said. "The best thing at this point was to rest it and not blow it out."
