Gil Meche has been tiring in the middle innings of recent starts and has altered his between-starts routine in an attempt to regain stamina. "For some reason, I've just been getting tired," Meche told the Kansas City Star. "I'm losing the stuff that I have. My last two outings, I've had my best stuff in the first three innings, and it was the same scenario back to back. I just lose it in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings." As a result, Meche will scale back on throwing between starts and during warm-ups before his starts. Meche has given up 10 earned runs in 11 innings during his last two starts and has seen his ERA creep up to 3.69 for the season.

Gil Meche threw a bullpen session on Monday and reported no problems related to his balky back. “I felt good,” Meche told the Kansas City Star. “I took some muscle relaxers to help out, and there were no problems. I will be able to go.” Meche had to leave his previous start with tightness in his back – an issue that hampered him a year ago – but is on track to start on Wednesday.

Gil Meche felt fine Saturday and is not expected to miss a turn, the AP reports. He left Friday's start with a tight lower back.

Gil Meche threw seven shutout innings on Monday, but didn’t factor into the decision during a 2-1 win over the Athletics. Meche allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out five. He now sports a record of 3-1 with a 1.91 ERA, which is good enough for third in the American League.

Gil Meche, who left Thursday's start with a tight right hamstring, did his running before Friday's game and said he was fine, according to the AP. "It's kind of a little bit sore, but no problem today," said Meche. "The max I would have gone was another inning, maybe another 15 pitches or so. Obviously, I'd have liked to have gone out. But looking back, it was probably the right decision."

Gil Meche left Thursday's start in the sixth inning with a strained right hamstring, but the injury isn't thought to be serious, according to the Baltimore Sun. "We think it's fairly mild," Royals manager Buddy Bell said, "but we'll get a better diagnosis tomorrow."

Gil Meche was impressive in his Royals debut on Monday against Boston, hurling 7 1/3 innings while allowing only one run and recording the win. "I've never admitted to being nervous before a game ... but this one was a little nerve-racking," he told the AP. "I felt fine until I actually got across the white lines and thought to myself, 'This is opening day. This is a big deal.'"
