MLB.com reports that Jake Westbrook had successful arthroscopic surgery on his right hip in Nashville, Tenn., on Friday. He is still recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent earlier in the summer.

The Indians have received a diagnosis from Dr. Lewis Yocum regarding Jake Westbrook's ailing pitching elbow, but they're not going to tell anyone what it is until Saturday. "I will confirm that Jake saw Dr. Lewis Yocum on Friday," said GM Mark Shapiro in the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I will confirm the we have a clear diagnosis of his elbow. We will not say any more until Saturday."

Westbrook thought he might get activated following Sunday's start at Lake County, but rain forced him out of the fourth inning. Westbrook said, "I was hoping I would only have to make one start, but the rain got me in the fourth inning. I think they were leaning toward me making two rehab starts anyway."

Jake Westbrook went the distance for the Indians Tuesday, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four over nine innings. Travis Hafner gave the Tribe the lead in the top of the inning with a two-run jack, and Westbrook shut the door in the bottom of the frame. He needed just 94 pitches in the complete game effort. Westbrook had a phenomenal spring, and that's carried over into the regular season, as he has a 2.76 ERA after two starts.

Westbrook has been bothered by a sore right arm this spring but appears to be ready for the opening week of the regular season. The Indians right-hander missed several starts last year to injury and logged a substandard K rate and had only six wins on the season. In Westbrook's second start this spring he gave up one hit, one walk and struck out five.

Westbrook is scheduled to take the pill to the hill against Detroit on Sunday. The report notes that Westbrook says he's always experienced arm soreness in spring training. "I usually have it for about half of spring training," said Westbrook, "but this year it's probably a little stronger than in the past." Westbrook said throwing the bullpen was easier on his arm than pitching in today's game.
