Damaso Marte met with and apologized to manager Ozzie Guillen and the rest of the White Sox yesterday for his actions last weekend, according to the Daily Southtown. He was welcomed back and picked up his fifth save of the season. "I apologized to the team," Marte said, through interpreter Joey Cora. "I asked for forgiveness from teammates, the coaches and even the trainers. I feel bad about what I did, but I'm very happy to be back."

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has left open a small chance that Damaso Marte could rejoin the team, according to the Chicago Tribune. Marte, who was sent away from the team for being late Sunday, could meet with his teammates this weekend to determine whether they will accept him back. "He doesn't have to show me [his sincerity], he has to show his teammates," Guillen said. "You have to make the commitment and make those guys believe you are ready to go. I can tell if you're ready to go as soon as I see your eyes. If my players believe it, I don't have any problem [taking him back]. If not, we'll go in a different way."

The sore neck of Damaso Marte was examined Wednesday in Chicago by White Sox team physician Dr. Charles Bush-Joseph, and the team said Marte has a strained muscle on the side of his upper back, according to the AP. "Marte is fine. He's 100 percent to go," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "If makes you wonder if the injury was mentally or physically. If the injury was mental, it's a shame because that kid has better stuff than a lot of people in this game."

The White Sox sent Damaso Marte home before Sunday's game because the pitcher arrived late, according to the team's official Web site. "If you don't respect my team, not necessarily me, I don't want you around the ballclub the next few days," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "He went out of here and he can come back Tuesday and see what happens."

Damaso Marte was treated for a sore neck yesterday, according to the Chicago Tribune. He was ripped into by pitching coach Don Cooper after giving up a two-run homer on Tuesday. "Just give us the same [bleeping] fastball and breaking balls you have for the first three years of your career and we'll go from there," Cooper said he told Marte. "But the way he's thrown the last two nights, we can't come back and anticipate that he's going to be our late (game) lefty. He's got to go out and earn things again. And regain his No. 1 approach, confidence and the way we all know he can pitch, and then go do it."
