John McDonald was on the bench for the fourth time in six games on Thursday night, according to MLB.com. With the return of Scott Rolen and the solid play of Marco Scutaro and Joe Inglett, there just hasn't been any room in the lineup for McDonald.

The Toronto Blue Jays team website reports that manager John Gibbons indicated prior to Tuesday's game that John McDonald will be sent on a rehab assignment at some point within the next week. A rehab schedule will become more clear for John McDonald on Wednesday, when he is set to perform more baseball-related activities, according to general manager J.P. Ricciardi.

Just a day after saying that he wouldn't be placed on the DL, John McDonald was placed on the DL on Thursday with a sprained right ankle, according to the Associated Press. “I’m walking on it but I can’t run on it,” he said. “I wrenched it pretty good. The ligaments have got to heal up.”
