Vance Wilson underwent another surgery on his right elbow on Tuesday, according to the Detroit News. The team labeled it a "right elbow reconstruction revision."

Vance Wilson was trying to return to the Tigers this season, but that is not going to happen as he will soon undergo a second Tommy John surgery on his right elbow after tearing another ligament, according to the Detroit News. Wilson said, "I hope to play again. But you just don't know with something like this. The recovery from this is grueling, but at least I know what I'm facing."

Vance Wilson, who is recovering from right elbow surgery, received several cortisone shots in his arm on Thursday, and expects to resume throwing next week, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The hits just keep on coming for Vance Wilson. The catcher has been out since June of last year while recovering from Tommy John surgery and more recently has battled plantar fasciitis in his foot. On Friday Wilson was to catch seven inning in an extended spring game, but he was forced to leave after experiencing pain in his elbow while making a throw to second base, according to MLB.com. The pain is believed to have come from the breaking up of scar tissue remaining from his surgery. "What a nightmare," manager Jim Leyland said. "I feel bad for the guy." The training staff will examine Wilson on Saturday before deciding when he will catch in another extended spring game.

Vance Wilson will catch up to seven innings in an extended spring training game on Friday, the Detroit Free Press reports. The backstop is coming off Tommy John surgery in his right elbow and a more recent bout of plantar fasciitis.
April 29, 2008
Vance Wilson is progressing well from Tommy John surgery, but a bout of chronic plantar fasciitis in his foot is slowing his rehab, according to MLB.com. "He can throw," manager Jim Leyland summarized, "but he can't walk."
March 28, 2008
Vance Wilson has begun to make rapid improvement in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, according to the Detroit Free Press. "All of a sudden," manager Jim Leyland said, "he's starting to go leaps and bounds." Despite the improvement, Wilson still will begin the season on the disabled list.
March 14, 2008
Tigers manager Jim Leyland confirmed Thursday that Vance Wilson will not be ready when the season begins, according to the Detroit Free Press. Wilson is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, and it's not clear who will replace him as Pudge Rodriguez's backup.
March 5, 2008
Vance Wilson's recovery from TJ surgery doesn't look like it will enable him to be ready by opening day, this according to MLB.com. "More than likely, Vance will not be ready by Opening Day, from what I've seen," manager Jim Leyland said. The team is still trying to convince Brandon Inge to fill the backup catchers role, though they have been less than effective on that front.

Vance Wilson, coming back from Tommy John surgery, practiced throwing from 120 feet Monday with no apparent problems. The backstop said he would like to be ready to play in a game by March 20. "I would say that's possible but questionable," manager Jim Leyland told the Detroit News of Wilson's target date. Wilson would have value only if Pudge Rodriguez went down, and even this his value would be minimal.
February 12, 2008
Vance Wilson has not had the smoothest recovery from Tommy John surgery. He was experiencing pain and stiffness this winter, although it seems to have subsided in recent weeks. "He's throwing a little bit better," manager Jim Leyland told the Detroit News. "We'll have to wait and see. He's questionable, but I don't want to write anything off. He might be OK." If he's healthy, Wilson will begin the year as the backup to Ivan Rodriguez. Otherwise, Brandon Inge, who hasn't caught since 2004, will be No. 2 on the depth chart.
January 14, 2008
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said that he's "very concerned" about the status of Vance Wilson heading into the season. Wilson missed nearly all of last season due to Tommy John surgery. "I would predict it's very unlikely he'd be usable very early on (in spring training)," Leyland added, according to the Detroit News. "I'm hoping after the first couple of weeks, he'd be ready to go, but I'm not sure of that. He's done a lot to keep himself in great shape, but I'm concerned." Those concerns could force the Tigers to hold on to Brandon Inge as a reserve catching option. After the Tigers acquired third baseman Miguel Cabrera, it was assumed that they'd deal Inge, but those plans might be on hold.
