Vance Wilson underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on Tuesday and will miss the remainder of the season. According to the Detroit News, Wilson was supposed to return to the Tigers as soon as this week after a minor league rehab stint, but he re-injured the elbow while making a practice throw from behind the plate.

Vance Wilson may be done for the year after he reaggravated his sore right forearm throwing long toss before Thursday's Triple-A game in Toledo against Syracuse, according to the AP. He had three at-bats while playing DH until the third inning, when he took himself out of the game due to soreness.

Vance Wilson announced yesterday that he will not require surgery to repair his injured right elbow, according to the Detroit Free Press. He's aiming to return to action in 4-6 weeks. "Dr. Andrews saw what our doctors in Detroit saw," Wilson said. "I obviously have degeneration in a ligament in my arm, but it's not a big deal. I'm 34, and I've been catching for a long time. I definitely have a tear in the pronator (arm muscle) mass, but I won't need surgery. I need to rest it for about a month. I can resume building it up a little bit in about 3 1/2 weeks."

Vance Wilson will consult with Dr. James Andrews this week, though neither Wilson nor the Tigers anticipates that the torn muscles in his elbow will require surgery, the Detroit Free Press reports. "I would be shocked if surgery was required, from everything I've heard," Jim Leyland said.

The Tigers still don't know the extent of Vance Wilson's elbow injury, according to the Detroit News. "He's getting checked out again," manager Jim Leyland said before Detroit's 3-1 loss Friday. "I don't yet what they've decided. But I don't understand all those things, so talk to (head trainer) Kevin Rand about it."

Vance Wilson had a session of short tossing Wednesday and didn't have any issues with his elbow, though there wasn't much to tell since he didn't have to rear back and throw, the Tigers official site reports. Wilson will accompany the team on the road trip and is eligible to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on April 14.

Vance Wilson said on Monday that his ailing right elbow is starting to feel better, according to the Tigers website. "It feels better," Wilson said. "It feels a lot better." He hopes to start playing catch on Wednesday.

Vance Wilson had an MRI taken of his sore right elbow yesterday, according to the Detroit Free Press. He hasn't played since leaving Saturday's game with inflammation in the joint. Results of the exam weren't immediately available. "This is just to clear my own mind," Wilson said. "If it's just inflammation, I can play through the pain. It'll be fine. We'll get it taken care of."
