The Nationals have confirmed that Felipe Lopez will play second base in 2007, according to the team's website. "I have no problem playing second base," Lopez said. "I played there before. I just have to go to Spring Training and work at it.

Now that the Nationals have traded Jose Vidro, Felipe Lopez is expected to move to second base so that Cristian Guzman can re-assume the shortstop job, according to the team's website. Lopez has played only 12 games at second in the majors.

The AP reports that the Nationals traded for Felipe Lopez, Austin Kearns, and Ryan Wagner on Thursday. In exchange they sent Royce Clayton, Bill Bray, Gary Majewski, Daryl Thompson, and Brendan Harris to the Reds. As the everyday shortstop for Cincinnati, Lopez was hitting .268 with nine HR, 30 RBI, and 23 SB. He will be Washington's starting shortstop.

Felipe Lopez got the day off on Tuesday after striking out four times on Monday, according to the AP. "Just watching him, I thought he needed a day off," said manager Jerry Narron. Ray Olmedo replaced Lopez in the lineup.

With Ken Griffey back in the lineup, the Reds have moved Felipe Lopez to the leadoff spot, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Lopez stole four bases on Wednesday and another on Thursday and has been successful on 16 of 17 attempts this year. He stole all of 15 bases last year.
