With Alex Rodriguez out of the picture in New York, the Yankees have had preliminary discussions about Joe Crede, who is coming off back surgery, according to the New York Daily News. Should the Sox choose to deal Crede, Josh Fields would take over the full-time job at third base, although Fields has also been working out in left field, so trading Crede may not be a necessity.

Joe Crede will spend a few days doing rehab in Phoenix next week. After that, he'll head home to Missouri, where he will continue to rehab his ailing back for at least two months, according to the Chicago Tribune. It remains unclear if he will be able to return from his back surgery this season.

Joe Crede will start a rehabilitation program this week in Arizona, his agent told the Chicago Tribune. "The main thing is we want him back healthy and full strength," Scott Boras said. "The key is that we resolved a problem that Joe had been playing a great deal of pain and seeing that the problem is not something that would affect his long-term future." Crede underwent surgery to remove fluid and small particles from his back on June 12, and it remains unclear if he'll be able to play again this season.

Joe Crede underwent back surgery on Tuesday. He'll be sidelined for at least two months, and it's possible he'll be sidelined for the remainder of the season, according to the AP. With Crede out, Josh Fields will continue to start at third base for the White Sox.

Joe Crede will undergo lower back surgery on Tuesday in Los Angeles. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, it’s not known exactly what procedure Crede will undergo, nor how long he might be out. Crede talked last week about a procedure that would have him out for at least two months before he could even start a rehab stint. Rookie Josh Fields will continue to start at third base in Crede's absence.

Joe Crede was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, and he was pondering the options related to the nerve problem in his back; most of which would result in an extended absence. When asked by the Chicago Sun-Times if he’d be back this season, Crede replied, “That’s something we don’t know yet. We’re going to weigh our best option and try to find what’s hopefully best not only for me this year, but in years to come.” Results of a recent MRI will be sent to two different back specialists before Crede decides on a course of action.

Joe Crede was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday afternoon with lower back inflammation, reports the team’s official website. Third baseman Josh Fields was recalled from the team’s Triple-A affiliate to take his place on the active roster.

Joe Crede’s balky back has acted up again, and the White Sox are considering placing him on the 15-day disabled list. “I want to sit him down for a little while,” manager Ozzie Guillen told the Chicago Sun-Times. The team is trying to avoid season-ending surgery, but the pain has gotten bad enough that Crede is said to be re-assessing all of his options. Minor league prospect Josh Fields has been playing very well at Triple-A and would likely get the call if Crede is forced to the DL.

Joe Crede was held out of Tuesday's game due to tightness in his back. Manager Ozzie Guillen said a trip to the disabled list is a possibility, according to the AP. "I'd rather lose him for 15 days than lose him for three, four or five months," Guillen said. More should be known about his status after he's examined further on Wednesday.

Joe Crede returned to the lineup Friday and went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Crede, who won the game with his 10th-inning sacrifice fly, has been fighting a tight back and hadn't played since Sunday.

Joe Crede missed his third straight game on Wednesday after tweaking his chronically sore back last Sunday, and the third baseman is pondering offseason surgery. “We’ll see how things play out,” Crede told the Chicago Sun-Times. “We have all the information we need, and at the end of the year, we’ll weight all our options and then move from there.” In the short term, it's unclear when Crede might return to action, though he could be back in the lineup this weekend after an off-day on Thursday.
May 23, 2007
Joe Crede says his back pain has subsided but not disappeared, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Ozzie Guillen is trying to be optimistic, hoping Crede can return for the weekend series with Tampa Bay, but if Crede's condition doesn't improve a DL trip is still possible.
May 22, 2007
Joe Crede, who is day-to-day with pain in his back, missed his second straight game Tuesday. It's unclear when he'll be ready to return to action, and a DL stint is a possibility, according to the AP. "That's for Kenny (Williams) and us to decide. You can't be on the active roster and not be participating out there and not be available on the bench. It's something we will take care of really quickly and hopefully sooner than later," Crede said.
May 22, 2007
Joe Crede was unable to play on Monday and is considered day-to-day with tightness and pain in his back. “Hopefully, it keeps getting better and I’ll be back in there soon,” Crede told the White Sox official website. “We know how to treat it this time. Before, there was a lot of uncertainty, so we got the MRIs and different cortisone shots but we didn’t know how to attack it.” Crede has been suffering from pain related to two herniated discs since 2005.
May 21, 2007
Joe Crede, who left Sunday's game against the Cubs with tightness in his lower back, wasn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against Oakland, according to the AP. Crede did not take batting practice Monday and will be re-evaluated Tuesday.
May 20, 2007
Joe Crede said the back problems that forced him out of Sunday's game are the worst of his career, which is saying something considering all the back issues he's had. "It hasn't been to this extreme," he said in the AP. "With the medication and the cortisone (shots), I think it will really calm down." Manager Ozzie Guillen said he didn't know if Crede would need to go on the DL. "Joe's back is bothering him real bad," Guillen said. "I had a feeling the last three days about his back because of the way he was walking, running, catching the ball, throwing and swinging."
May 20, 2007
Joe Crede had to leave Sunday's game after three innings due to tightness in his back, according to the AP. It's not clear how serious the injury is, but given Crede's history of back problems, owners have to be at least a little concerned.

Joe Crede was a late scratch from Friday's game after he was hit in the face by a ground ball during batting practice, according to the Daily Southtown. "I think (Crede) gave me a good performance because he got hit right in the mouth," Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "If you're a bad third baseman, you would get hit in the ear because you're trying to get out of the way." Crede is expected to return to the starting lineup today. No word yet on whether he'll risk catching more balls in batting practice, though.

Joe Crede is engaged in talks about a new contract with the White Sox, according to the Chicago Tribune. They are discussing one-year and multi-year proposals.
