He had said that the Marlins play scared because manager Jack McKeon and his staff are too negative. "I have always been a very passionate player and person," Burnett said in a statement. The Baltimore Sun reports that a possible trade to send A.J. Burnett to the Orioles may be in jeopardy, because the Orioles currently are unwilling to absorb most of Mike Lowell's contract. The offer would send Orioles pitching prospect Hayden Penn, outfielder Larry Bigbie and reliever Jorge Julio to the Marlins for Burnett, Lowell and a minor league outfielder. There also may be another offer of Julio, Steve Kline and Penn to the Marlins for Burnett and left-handed Triple-A reliever Matt Perisho on the table.

However, an Orioles official said it is doubtful to happen that soon. Discussions between the Marlins and Orioles are intensifying over a proposed trade that could send A.J. Burnett and, perhaps, Mike Lowell to Baltimore, according to the Miami Herald. But the Marlins are continuing to talk to more than six teams about Burnett, who is being eyed strongly by the Blue Jays, Red Sox and White Sox. According to a source with knowledge of the talks, the Marlins likely would receive Jorge Julio, pitching prospect Hayden Penn and possibly Larry Bigbie and reliever Steve Kline. The Marlins also could throw in minor-league outfielder Eric Reed.
