A.J. Burnett pitched his best game of the season on Friday night against the Twins. Burnett struck out 10, walked two and allowed just six hits and one earned run in seven innings to improve to 4-5.

A.J. Burnett tossed a shutout Tuesday night in his second start since returning from the disabled list. He allowed six hits, struck out seven and didn't walk a batter. Burnett retired 17 of the last 18 batters he faced and only needed 92 pitches to finish the game.

A.J. Burnett threw 40 pitches off the mound on Monday, according to the Toronto Star. "He was throwing hard," pitching coach Brad Arnsberg said. "He had better velocity than I thought I was going to see. I thought he might be at 70-80% after not being on a mound for a month, month and a half, but he looked like he was 85-90% to me." Burnett will throw another bullpen session on Thursday. Barring any setbacks, he could throw a simulated game on Monday.

Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi stated Wednesday that A.J. Burnett is more worried about his elbow injury than he should be, according to the AP. "Honestly, I think it's more so in his mind than it is medically," Ricciardi said. "Medically, this is two MRIs in the last month that have shown the same thing and three doctors that have looked at his elbow and said the same thing. There is a consensus there about the structure of the elbow, I think it's at his point, when does he feel the comfort to throw." There is still no timetable for Burnett's return.

A.J. Burnett has no structural damage in his right elbow, but there is no timetable for his return to Toronto's rotation, according to the AP. Burnett was examined Monday in Birmingham, Ala., by Dr. James Andrews, who said Burnett has a mild ligament sprain and a straining of scar tissue. "Everybody feels he'll be pain-free eventually. It's just something that needs a little rest," general manager J.P. Ricciardi said. "The elbow is fine. The ligament is fine. The tendons are fine. He's got a strong elbow. He just has a little tweak in it."

A.J. Burnett was placed on the 15-day disabled list for the second time this season on Saturday with a right elbow injury, which caused him to leave his start against Boston Friday after four innings. Burnett started the season on the disabled list after scar tissue broke off in his surgically repaired right elbow on March 18. It is hoped that this current injury is also due to scar tissue and not a structural problem with the elbow. On Monday, Burnett will visit Dr. James Andrews, who performed Tommy John surgery on Burnett's elbow in 2003.

Blue Jays spokesman Jay Stenhouse stated that Burnett's injury was "consistent with what (Burnett) experienced in spring training."
