GM J.P. Ricciardi has stated that A.J. Burnett is not on the trade block, according to the Toronto Sun. However, he hasn't completely dismissed the possibility. "We're not shopping him," said Ricciardi. "We don't want to move Burnett, we want him to help us win next season. But if someone was to wow us with an offer, we'd have to listen." Burnett's contract runs through 2010, but he has an opt-out clause after the 2008 season, which he'll likely exercise.

A.J. Burnett was scratched from Monday's start because he to tend to family business in Baltimore. The Jays flip-flopped Jesse Litsch and Burnett, with Litsch pitching Monday and Burnett slated to get the ball on Tuesday against the O's, according to the AP.

A.J. Burnett was sharp in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox, allowing three runs and striking out 11 over 8 2/3 innings. The Blue Jays can't be too concerned about Burnett's physical condition, as they let him throw 124 pitches. All but one of his strikeouts came on a dazzling curveball, for what it's worth.

"We're looking at Monday for a rehab assignment and if everything goes right, then we'll slot him into the rotation next weekend in Kansas City," GM J.P. Ricciardi said.

A.J. Burnett threw a four-inning simulated game Wednesday. He was scheduled to make a minor league rehab start for the Gulf Coast Blue Jays, but rain forced Burnett to throw the simulated game instead. "Throwing balls felt good," Burnett said in the AP. "Curveball was sharp, and it felt good to be on the hill. I mean, I feel ready. My arm feels great and my command looks sharp. I'm ready to go." Toronto manager John Gibbons said there is no date set for Burnett's next rehab start, but it could come Monday. "He looked good from here," Gibbons said. "I think he probably needs to get into a game situation, but there's nothing set yet."

A.J. Burnett will begin a rehab assignment on Wednesday. "I feel great. The sharks are out of there (shoulder) and everything feels back to normal," Burnett told the Toronto Sun. "I threw Friday (simulated game), had a bullpen (yesterday) and I feel like it never happened, so hopefully that cortisone quieted it down and we'll look forward from here." He probably will make a second rehab appearance before coming off the disabled list.

A.J. Burnett threw on flat ground for the second straight day Friday. Burnett made 50 throws after making 25 Thursday, according to the AP. The right-hander, who has been on the DL since July 1 with pain in his right shoulder, said both sessions were pain free.

A.J. Burnett played catch for Thursday the first time since landing back on the 15-day DL on July 1 with a shoulder issue, the Blue Jays official site reports. Toronto pitching coach Brad Arnsberg said the pitcher made 25 throws on flat ground. "I talked to [Burnett] and he said he felt good," said GM J.P. Ricciardi, who hopes to have Burnett back by the end of the month. "Arnie said he threw well and he felt good. I'll see, maybe we can super-speed this up a little bit. We'll see. He felt really good, which is encouraging."

A.J. Burnett got a bit of bad news while visiting Dr. James Andrews, but it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. The right-hander will miss the next three or four weeks because of a shoulder strain and impingement, according to MLB.com. Manger John Gibbons told the site that Burnett didn’t need anything more than an MRI exam while with Dr. Andrews. A.J. will be shut down for a week and then commence a throwing program that will include a couple rehab starts before coming off the disabled list.

A.J. Burnett landed back on the disabled list Sunday with a right shoulder strain, according to the AP. He had just been activated from the DL on June 28. Jesse Litsch was recalled to replace Burnett in the rotation. At this point, it's unclear how long Burnett will be sidelined, but you have to figure it could be an extended period of time.

Burnett, who had a 4.35 ERA in his other 10 1/3 spring innings, will start Toronto's second game of the year against Detroit.

"I threw a lot of changeups and fastballs during counts that I normally wouldn't do," Burnett told the AP. "I'll need the changeup on the days when my curveball isn't working. It's good to have something to lean on." Burnett threw 61 pitches on the afternoon, and he holds a 1.50 ERA in six innings this spring.
