Rafael Furcal's rehab from back surgery has exceeded the estimated recovery period, and the Dodgers have lost hope of getting the shortstop back on a full-time basis this season, according to the LA Times.

Rafael Furcal could be out for the remainder of the season, according to the Los Angeles Times. He will undergo a a microdiscectomy on his back today. The procedure involves removing a piece of bone to relieve pressure on a nerve.

July 2, 2008
It has been decided that Rafael Furcal will undergo surgery on Thursday to relieve pressure on a disk in his lower back, and he could be out at least eight weeks, according to the AP. He has not been able to recover from a lower back strain and skipper Joe Torre said, "Its a blow, but its reality. He went out there, played a game and that was that. Its frustrating. He was, from what I understand, ready to just do this and get it done and get it over with. They anticipate this will solve everything."

July 2, 2008
Two months after going on the disabled list and only two games after making his first minor league rehab start, Rafael Furcal is back to square one with no light at the end of the tunnel, this according to the LA Times. The current pain he is experiencing is concerning and when he will return to the team is not known. "Obviously it's not good news," Dodgers Manager Joe Torre said. "He felt so good about himself, with this exercise program he was on. I'm sure for him it's really frustrating."
