Alfonso Soriano said again Monday that he won't move to the outfield for the Nationals. Soriano also said that he'd prefer to be in the American League and will look to sign with an AL team when he becomes a free agent after the 2006 season.

Alfonso Soriano has said that he will not play in the outfield for the Nationals, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I have the same position [on moving] as I always had when I was with Texas," Soriano said. "I said that I'm not going to change from second base." Soriano was traded to Washington on Wednesday.

The Nationals acquired Alfonso Soriano from the Rangers Wednesday for Brad Wilkerson, Terrmel Sledge and a minor league pitcher, according to the AP. The deal is pending physicals. Soriano is expected to move to left field with Jose Vidro already in place at second base.

The Rangers had until Monday to decided whether to trade him, allow the Twins to pick up his contract or to revoke waivers and retain his rights. The team chose to retain him. Soriano will be eligible for arbitration after the season and could become a free agent after the 2006 season.

A rumored three-way trade with the Mets, Rangers and Reds that was circulating yesterday would have brought Alfonso Soriano and Sean Casey to the Mets, according to the Daily News. However, an official with one of the clubs said that the deal wouldn't materialize. Soriano has been linked to several deals with the Mets recently.
