"He could pinch-run, but I'm going to try and stay away from that," manager Charlie Manuel said. "He can run, but he can't swing the bat or throw." Shane Victorino could be activated from the DL tomorrow but the team may keep the hot hitting Jayson Werth in the lineup, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Victorino would naturally replace Werth in center field when he comes back, but the team may move Werth into right field in place of Geoff Jenkins. The team also may leave Werth in center and move Victorino to right. Manager Charlie Manuel stated, "I think right now Werth has shown he can play centerfield. Of course, Victorino at the start of our season, he was our center fielder. When you are hurt, you usually don't lose your job, unless somebody knocks the stuffing out of the ball. If somebody outplays you. I always thought if I was better than somebody, and I beat them out, that I deserved the right to play. And I'm 64 years old, and I still think that way. Now, it's up to that guy to win his job back."

Jayson Werth continues to struggle at the plate this spring as he went 0-for-4 against Tampa Bay on Wednesday, with two strikeouts. His spring average dipped to .154 but still has time to get on track before the season starts. He will play a role as a situational hitter.

The Phillies avoided arbitration by inking Jayson Werth to a one-year, $1.7 million deal Monday. The contract also includes performance bonuses. Werth had a nice year as a part-timer with the Phils last year, hitting .298 with a .404 OBP to go along with eight homers and 49 RBI in 255 at-bats. He hit .375 against lefties in 2007 and should get plenty of starts against southpaws in 2008.
