The Indians exercised their 2006 club option on C.C. Sabathia and signed him to a two-year contract extension through 2008 on Wednesday, according to the AP. Sabathia is 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in two starts this season. "C.C. Sabathia is a special talent and special person and we are very fortunate to have someone with his ability and character leading our organization into what we hope is the next championship era of Cleveland Indians baseball," Indians general manager Mark Shapiro said.

They probably won't resume again until the Indians are sure that he is healthy. Sabathia's current contract has a 2006 option for $7 million that will automatically vest if he pitches 154 innings this year.

C.C. Sabathia tested his strained abdominal muscle yesterday by working two innings in a minor league game, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I felt good," Sabathia said. "I was clocked at 94-97 miles an hour and threw free and easy." He's currently slated to make his first start with the Indians April 17.
