September 15, 2008
The benefits of having clinched a playoff spot early were evident for the Angels on Sunday as their entire starting outfield got the day off due to various ailments. While all could have played if it were a playoff-type game, Manager Mike Scioscia sat Torii Hunter (quadriceps), Vladimir Guerrero (knee) and Juan Rivera (hip).

July 19, 2008
Despite some questionable fielding, Juan Rivera's hot bat is keeping him as the right fielder in the Angels' starting lineup. He went 1-for-3 in last night's victory over the Red Sox and is in the lineup once again on Saturday.

April 11, 2008
Juan Rivera has some at-bats coming, according to MLB.com. Manager Sciosca noted, "I wanted to get our regular guys into the flow of the season, but Rivera and Willits are going to have to play shortly so they can stay fresh enough to contribute. We'll look closely at next week." Rivera is hitless over three at-bats so far in 2008.
March 17, 2008
A sore shoulder has limited Juan Rivera to DH and pinch-hitting duties, but he should be back in the field on Tuesday, according to the LA Times. It appears the Angels have just been cautious with him, but we'll see how he holds up once he starts playing defense this week.
March 11, 2008
Juan Rivera is on the Braves' radar, according to Bill Shaikin of the LA Times. Rivera does not have a starting job and would be able to help several clubs, one being the Braves. Ken Rosenthal also suggested Sunday that Reggie Willits was not available but the team wanted to trade Rivera. David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution was quoted, "After talking to a couple of people today, I think there’s something to the Juan Rivera thing. I believe the Braves do have interest, just not sure if there’s a match."
March 9, 2008
Juan Rivera registered two-run single in a three-run seventh inning, helping his Angels defeat the Texas Rangers 6-4 on Sunday. Juan Rivera , who missed most of the 2007 season with a broken tibia, is fighting for at-bats in a loaded LA outfield. The acquisition of Torii Hunter during the offseason has resulted in Rivera receiving action at first base this spring.
March 8, 2008
Juan Rivera continues to push for a spot on the major league roster, hitting 2-for-3 in the Angels' 2-6 loss to the Colorado Rockies. The opportunistic play is a positive sign for the Angels, but the timing is off. The Angels carry more than a few options at 1B, though Rivera got his shot in left field today. If he keeps the hot bat in form and a spot can be found on the bench as a backup, Rivera may have a seam of hope in '08.
February 18, 2008
Juan Rivera will participate in drills at 1B this spring in order to see if the club can find a way to get his powerful bat in the lineup more often according to a report on MLB.com. "He's taken some ground balls periodically," manager Mike Scioscia said. "I think he's got the potential to add some depth over there." The Angels already have Casey Kotchman and Kendry Morales at the position, so unless the team were to move either one of those players we are likely only talking about some mop up duty for Rivera at first base.
January 18, 2008
The Angels inked Juan Rivera to a one-year, $2.025 million deal Thursday, as the two sides avoided arbitration. Rivera played in just 14 games last year after recovering from a broken leg. He'll be competing to earn playing time in a crowded outfield in Anaheim.
