Brad Wilkerson, who was acquired by the Blue Jays today, is in the starting lineup tonight against Cleveland. He is playing left field, replacing normal starter Shannon Stewart. It's worth noting that Toronto is desperately searching for a lineup that can produce. In the last 30 games, the Jays have sported the same lineup only twice.

Brad Wilkerson has been acquired by the Blue Jays, according to Fox Sports. He was recently cut by the Mariners.

Brad Wilkerson is on the Jays' radar, according to Globeandmail.com. Wilkerson is a left-handed batter who is statistically better against lefties than righties, and was recently designated for assignment by Seattle. The Blue Jays will open a four-game set on Friday against the Indians, and Jays' GM J.P. Ricciardi made clear Thursday that the team would likely add another bat before Friday night's game. Wilkerson has been pursued by the Jays at earlier times in his career, and Manager John Gibbons said, "We're facing three lefties in Cleveland, so we'd like a right-handed type bat, by that I mean a guy who can hit lefties."

Brad Wilkerson has been cut by the Mariners, according to the AP. The team called up catcher Jeff Clement from Triple-A Tacoma, and felt Wilkerson was expendable to free up a roster spot. The team has 10 days to trade Wilkerson, release him, or assign him to outright to the minor leagues.

Manager John McLaren doesn't plan on platooning anyone with the left-handed hitting Brad Wilkerson. "I want to see how Brad fits in," McLaren said in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Wilkerson has actually hit better in his career against lefties. He's faded big time over the last three years after a breakout 2004 campaign and will be looking to rebound this season in Seattle.

The Mariners' official website reports that the team signed free-agent outfielder Brad Wilkerson to a one-year contract on Thursday, perhaps a prelude to the much-anticipated trade for left-hander Erik Bedard. Wilkerson spent the past two seasons with the Rangers, posting his third career 20-homer season in 2007 and driving in 62 runs while hitting just .234. "The addition of Brad to our club gives us a number of different options," Seattle GM Bill Bavasi said in a press release. "He is a solid left-handed bat who can play all three outfield positions and first base." The Mariners could play Wilkerson in left field full-time and move Raul Ibanez to right, or they could put him in some sort of right-field platoon. Time will tell.
January 29, 2008
The Seattle Times reports that the Mariners have reached an agreement on a one-year deal with Brad Wilkerson that will be finalized as soon as the Erik Bedard trade goes down. The Mariners could play Wilkerson in left field full-time and move Raul Ibanez to right, or they could put him in some sort of right-field platoon, perhaps with prospect Wladimir Balentien if they feel Balentien is ready for the majors after hitting .291-24-84 with 15 steals last year at Triple-A Tacoma.

Brad Wilkerson has received some interest from the Red Sox, according to the Boston Herald. The outfielder is reportedly asking for a three-year contract worth $21 million. Wilkerson would fill the role left by Eric Hinske, serving as a left-handed hitter off the bench who can play outfield and first base.
