After giving up a game-tying home run to Chicago's Matt Murton in the ninth inning on Tuesday, Brad Lidge has lost his job as the Astros closer, according to the AP. Brad Lidge got in trouble while trying to close out Friday's game and was pulled with the bases loaded and two out. Brad Lidge is experimenting with a cut fastball, a pitch he used while walking Ken Griffey Jr. on four pitches Thursday night, according to the Houston Chronicle. Because of Lidge's struggles lately, there has been some speculation that Dan Wheeler is the new closer in Houston, but manager Phil Garner is still adamant that Lidge is the stopper. However, Garner did say that he would relieve Lidge with lefty Trever Miller on occasion against left-handed batters.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Brad Lidge is close to getting his job as closer back. Before Lidge worked his third straight 1-2-3 inning Wednesday, manager Phil Garner said that he'd use Lidge one more time in middle relief before moving him back to the closer's role. "I thought he threw pretty good," Garner said. "I think we'll look at putting him back. I'll sit on it for a little while, but I would expect we'll see him back in closing situations."

Brad Lidge, who has a 6.48 ERA this year, will be temporarily removed as the Astros' closer while he works on some adjustments, according to the AP. "What I want to try to do is give him a couple of outings here where he can work on some of the things that he and (pitching coach) Jim Hickey have been working on," manager Phil Garner said. "And do it without thinking that the one pitch may cost him a ballgame if he doesn't get it where he wants to." Dan Wheeler and Chad Qualls will close until Lidge gets his mechanics down.

A week ago, manager Phil Garner was adamant that Brad Lidge would remain his closer, according to the Houston Chronicle. On Thursday, he qualified his comments before answering the question. Lidge, who was pulled in the ninth inning Thursday after allowing a run to score on three hits and a walk, says his confidence isn't a problem.
