The Brewers designated Kevin Mench for assignment on Monday. The team made the move to create space on the roster for Salomon Torres, who was acquired from Pittsburgh last week. Mench hit .267 with eight homers in 288 at-bats in 2007, and he could catch on somewhere to play in a platoon role next year.

The Brewers unsuccessfully tried to deal Kevin Mench during the Winter Meetings. If they're unable to trade him prior to the Dec. 12 deadline for offering contracts, Mench could be non-tendered, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The team wants to either find a left fielder or find a third baseman and move Ryan Braun to left field. Either way, it doesn't appear that Mench is in their plans for next season.

The Brewers agreed to a one-year deal with Kevin Mench Tuesday, according to Sports Network. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Mench had a .269 batting average with 13 homers and 68 RBI for Texas and Milwaukee last year. It's been rumored that the Brewers would like to trade him.
