Jim Edmonds has been in and out of the lineup in the month of September but was in the batting order today. He awarded the Cubs with a 2-for-4 day at the plate and added his 10th home run of the year in the Cubs 7-6 win over the Brewers.

Following up on a previous report, Jim Edmonds will in fact join the Cubs after passing a physical. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry told the media before Wednesday night's game that Edmonds was on his way to Chicago and must pass a physical before he can join the team, this according to the AP.

The San Diego Padres have activated CF Jim Edmonds from the 15-day disabled list, according to MLB.com. Edmonds, acquired via trade with St. Louis during the offseason, was in today's starting lineup against the Dodgers, batting fifth in the lineup. To get Edmonds on the active roster, the Padres optioned OF Jody Gerut to Triple-A Portland.

According to MLB.com, Jim Edmonds on the disabled list, said that he wouldn't unnecessarily push himself to get back quicker from the strained right calf injury he suffered on March 6. Three days later, and after taking Friday and Sunday as a day of rest, Edmonds told the San Diego media would come off the disabled list and rejoin the Padres when he's eligible on April 5.

The Padres placed Jim Edmonds on the DL Friday, retroactive to March 21. The outfielder is dealing with a strained calf. He had been hoping to be ready for opening day, so it seems like there would be a good chance he's activated when eligible on April 5. Scott Hairston will start in center field while Edmonds is out.

I've been running and doing everything," Edmonds tells MLB.com. "I know I'm going to try and get in as many [Minor League] games as I can in the next five days and get as many at-bats as I can." Fantasy owners should not count on the veteran early in the season, if at all this year.

Edmonds has only been able to make his way to the plate for six at-bats because of his injury calf, and he is nowhere near ready to jump into the lineup. As a result, Jody Gerut and Paul McAnulty likely will make the squad with Gerut looking like the starter in left field.

Jim Edmonds tested his strained right calf with a "basic" run Thursday. When he might return to the lineup could be determined this morning when the Padres medical staff further evaluates him. "It was very basic, but I felt good," said Edmonds in the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I can't feel optimistic yet, but I'm hoping I'll be ready for opening day." GM Kevin Towers said he thinks that Edmonds is still a ways from being in a game. He added that while the outfielder could begin the year on the DL, though the move could be retroactive and force him to miss only five games.

"I worry that it’s worse than it appears," Padres manager Bud Black said Friday morning. "But you don’t know. We don’t know much as of right now." This doesn't sound too promising, but we should have a better idea of his status once the MRI results are released.

Padres manager Bud Black said that Jim Edmonds will skip at least two games due to the calf injury that forced him out of Thursday's contest, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. With his history of injuries, it may actually be a while longer before we see Edmonds back in the mix.

Jim Edmonds injured his calf on Thursday , this according to the AP. At this point all we know is that Edmonds was removed after one inning of action, but given his history of injuries, this is certainly a terrible start to the 2008 season for the former all-star.

Jim Edmonds spent the off-season trying to get his body in shape after what was a difficult 2007 season in which he had only 365 AB and 12 HR. "When you're down in the 50s and 60s, percentage wise, it's not much fun; I am hoping this winter catapults me into a good season," said Edmonds, according to MLB.com. After hitting at least 28 HR in 6-straight seasons, Edmonds has produced just 31 HR the past two years during which time he has also hit just .255, so don't draft Edmonds as anything more than a fifth OF this season.
