The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Jim Edmonds will undergo arthroscopic surgery today to repair his ailing right shoulder. Edmonds will have bone shaved from near the arthritic joint of his shoulder blade and collarbone but should be fine for spring training. Five days ago, he inked a two-year, $19 million with the Cardinals, so they obviously aren't too worried about it.

The Cardinals re-signed Jim Edmonds to a two-year deal Friday, according to the AP. The deal will pay him between $18 million and $19 million. "We couldn't be more pleased to have this extension worked out with Jim," Cardinals GM Walt Jocketty said. "Jim is one of the true leaders for our team both on and off the field, and it's not just coincidence that he has been such a big part in creating and maintaining a winning attitude ever since his arrival in 2000." Edmonds hit .257 with 19 homers and 70 RBI in 2006.

Edmonds' annual salary is expected to be comparable to the $10 million that he would receive if the Cardinals would've picked up his option for next year. Edmonds hit .257 with 19 homers and 70 RBI in an injury-filled 2006 season.
