David Eckstein has suffered a setback in his return from a hip flexor injury, and he won't be back with the Blue Jays on Thursday as expected, according to the Toronto Globe and Mail. He is currently on a rehab assignment. "He was a little tender, and he didn't play (Tuesday) or today (Wednesday)," manager John Gibbons said. "There's still 4 1/2 months left in the season and we want this cleared up when he's here. So he'll need to play a few more games down there."

Just a day after saying that he wouldn't be placed on the DL, David Eckstein was placed on the DL on Thursday with a strained hip flexor, according to the Associated Press.

David Eckstein will avoid the DL despite an injured hip, according to MLB.com. "Eckstein, in a pinch, could probably do something," GM J.P. Ricciardi said. "It's nothing really serious. He's pretty much day-to-day, so we're going to try to see if we can keep him playing." Injured John McDonald (ankle) will also avoid the DL.

SS David Eckstein put the hurt on the Boston Red Sox today, serving as one of several offensive powers in a 10-2 victory. Eckstein went 2-for-5 at the plate, bringing three RBIs across home plate. On the bright side for Boston, Eckstein was caught stealing... and that's about all they stopped him from doing today.

David Eckstein enjoyed a nice day at the plate in Toronto's 6-3 win over Cincinnati today. Eckstein went 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI (his eighth of spring training). Eck has never been known for swinging stick (hitting just .227 this spring), but days like this indicate he could work well at the top of Toronto's order.

David Eckstein did something he rarely does, that is he hit a HR on Thursday for the Jays. In fact, it was a grand slam. “I haven’t had solid contact the whole spring training,” said Eckstein on a report on the AP. “So it was finally nice to hit one solid.” Eckstein is struggling along with a .182 average this spring, but he figures to be his normal spunky, overachieving self for the Jays once the season starts.
