Josh Beckett remains on target to start Tuesday's game for the Red Sox, according to the Boston Globe. However, the cut on the middle finger of his pitching hand could hinder his performance.

Josh Beckett was able to play catch yesterday and will do so again today, according to the Boston Globe. He has a cut on the middle finger of his pitching hand, though it's looking like he probably will be able to make his scheduled start on Tuesday.

The good news is that Josh Beckett doesn't have a blister, a perennial problem for the pitcher, on his middle finger, according to the Boston Globe. However, he does have a small cut on the digit that likely will force his next start to be pushed back a day or two.
August 25, 2006
Josh Beckett suffered a small cut on his finger during his start on Thursday night, which could put his next start in jeopardy, according to the Boston Herald. "My blisters are usually on the pad of my finger but this is a small, half-moon cut on the side," said Beckett. "I don't know if I cut my nails too short or what. It's a bittersweet feeling because we won, but I'm frustrated because I've been through it before." His next start is slated for Tuesday.

One of the potential reasons for the struggles of Josh Beckett this season is that he could be tipping his pitches, according to the Red Sox website. Tigers first baseman Sean Casey remembers Beckett tipping his pitches when he faced him in 2002. However, Casey doesn't think that was happening when the Tigers knocked Beckett around on Monday. "Sometimes when guys throw fastballs and they don't get their breaking ball over and they throw their fastball down the middle, they're gonna get hit," manager Terry Francona said. "That, to me, is not tipping. That's not locating."

The Red Sox have officially listed Jon Lester as their scheduled starter for Tuesday, which would mean Josh Beckett will not get two starts next week. With an off day Monday, the Sox could have opted to skip Lester to keep Beckett on his regular rest schedule.

The Red Sox inked Josh Beckett to a three-year extension on Wednesday, according to the AP. The deal is worth $30 million, and it includes a team option for 2010. "It is something that has definitely been weighing on me this week," Beckett said. "We've been talking about it for a while. It's nice to get it over with and move on. It didn't drag out. Things take time. It didn't get finished until (Tuesday) night. I'm happy here."

Josh Beckett is scheduled to make his next start Saturday, according to the Boston Globe. He threw only 80 pitches in his last start. Beckett admitted that his back is tight, but said he didn't have a recurrence of his blistered finger.

Because Josh Beckett threw just 80 pitches on Monday night, he may make his next start on Saturday instead of Sunday, according to the Boston Herald. A decision isn’t expected until today at the earliest. If Beckett does start Saturday, Lenny DiNardo likely will get the nod against the Phillies Sunday.

After having his scheduled start rained out on Tuesday, Josh Beckett will be bumped back a day and will face Roy Halladay and the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
April 5, 2006
Josh Beckett had a strong debut for the Red Sox on Wednesday. He lasted seven innings, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk, while striking out five to earn the victory.
March 6, 2006
The spring debut of Josh Beckett on Monday was not a pretty one, as he allowed five runs on five hits, including two home runs, in three innings of work. "I made some mistakes that shouldn't happen," Beckett said. "You learn from it and move on. It was all about executing pitches. I didn't. I left the ball to Gomes in the middle of the plate, trying to get it in. Lugo, same thing. Actually I was trying to go away and left it in the middle of the plate."

Josh Beckett and the Red Sox have come to terms on a one-year deal worth $4.33 million, according to the Boston Herald. The team acquired Beckett from the Marlins during the offseason.
