Ross Gload was activated off the disabled list Saturday and started at first base against the White Sox, going 0-for-3. Gload is returning from a quadriceps injury, and he figures to play everyday at first while Ryan Shealy is out.

Ross Gload has made good progress on his ailing right quadriceps muscle and is expected to be sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment as soon as this weekend. “The quad is good,” Gload told the Kansas City Star. “As good as you can expect. We test it a little more every day. I’m hoping to play before the [All-Star] break. I don’t know if I’ll be there.”

As expected, the Royals placed Ross Gload on the DL Monday with a torn right quadriceps, according to the AP. Gload had been Kansas City's primary first baseman after Ryan Shealy went on the disabled list. In 30 games, Gload hit .284 with two homers and 17 RBI.

The Royals are expected to place Ross Gload on the disabled list today, according to the KC Star. He's going to take a couple of weeks off to rest his sore quadriceps. "It’s just not getting any better," manager Buddy Bell said. The club will recall Angel Berroa to replace Gload on their roster.

Ross Gload will begin the year platooning in left field with Emil Brown, the Kansas City Star reports. Gload gets the healthy share of at-bats in this arrangement (he's a left-handed batter), giving him a jolt of value for AL-only leagues.
