Ben Sheets underwent successful back surgery in Dallas, according to the AP. Sheets is expected to return home at the end of the week to begin a rehabilitation program. He is scheduled to begin his normal offseason throwing regiment in January before reporting to spring training in February.

"It depends on how long it would take (to rehab)," he said. "There is no doubt that it could (require surgery). Right now, it's OK. I'm going to stand pat as long as it feels all right. . . It bothers me from time to time. It doesn't feel great. When I pitch, it feels good because I get it loose."
