Vicente Padilla reached a preliminary agreement with the Rangers on a three-year, $33 million contract Monday, according to the AP. Padilla won 15 games and held a 4.50 ERA in 33 starts for Texas in 2006.

The Rangers offered salary arbitration to Vicente Padilla on Saturday, according to the AP. They hope to re-sign the 15-game winner and are now guaranteed an extra draft pick if he goes to another team. Padilla has until Thursday to accept or reject arbitration. If Padilla signs with another team, the Rangers would be compensated with a "sandwich" pick between the first and second rounds of the next summer's draft.

Agent Paul Kinzer said the Mets have shown an interest in free agent Vicente Padilla, according to the New York Post. Padilla could be a backup plan is the team fails to land Barry Zito. Padilla went 15-10 with a 4.50 ERA for the Rangers last season.

Vicente Padilla has been suspended five games by major league baseball for his role in yesterday's brawl with the Angels. MLB.com reports that Padilla will begin serving his suspension Thursday, in which case he would miss his scheduled start on Sunday. That assumes that Padilla does not appeal.

Vicente Padilla was ejected from Tuesday night's game against the Angels after hitting two batters in the first four innings, according to the AP. Padilla, who hit Vladimir Guerrero with a pitch in the third, threw another inside pitch that just missed Guerrero in the fourth. He was ejected when he hit Juan Rivera with a fastball later in the inning.
