"We're trying to do two things," Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said. "Trying to get a closer. Also trying to get somebody, a veteran starting pitcher, that would give us the ability to win games. Those are our two biggest needs."

After blowing saves on consecutive nights, B.J. Ryan had a planned day of rest yesterday, according to the Baltimore Sun. With the Orioles off today and playing a night game tomorrow at Tampa Bay, manager Lee Mazzilli wanted Ryan to get 2 1/2 days of rest. Ryan has given up seven earned runs in his last 6 1/3 innings. "That's the life of a closer," Mazzilli said. "That's all it is. ... It's not like they are hitting the ball hard off of him. B.J. is going to be fine."
