With Oakland's off day on Thursday, Barry Zito will start on Saturday against Texas to stay on his normal rest, according to the Contra Costa Times. Manager Ken Macha indicated that Zito would start the one-game playoff on three day's rest if the A's end the regular season in a first-place tie with the Angels.

After throwing 122 pitches against the Indians on Wednesday, the A's could give Barry Zito an extra day or two of rest, according to the Contra Costa Times. The extra rest would allow Zito to start against the Angels, a series that begins Sept. 26 in Oakland.

Barry Zito underwent treatment on his right ribcage and trapezius muscle before and after Sunday's game and again Monday, according to the Contra Costa Times. "I'm not going to miss my start," Zito said Monday. "If I was going to miss a start, it would have been yesterday."

Barry Zito will start in place of Rich Harden on Thursday, according to the AP. Harden won't be able to make the start because of a slight strain in his throwing shoulder. Because the A's were off on Monday, Zito will still be throwing on four days' rest.
