Cesar Izturis said yesterday that he doubts he'll return to action this season, according to the Daily Southtown. He's dealing with a tight right hamstring. "There is a big bruise back there," Izturis said. "They tried to take all the blood out of there. I don't think I will be playing any more this year. I just want to get healthy for next year."

It's not clear if Cesar Izturis will risk aggravating his tight right hamstring by playing again this season, according to the Chicago Tribune. The Dodgers activated Cesar Izturis from the disabled list on Tuesday and announced that he would be the team's everyday third baseman starting Thursday, according to the AP. Izturis, who had season-ending Tommy John surgery last September to his right elbow, has only played the position once in his professional career, a two inning stint in an instructional league game in 1998. Izturis will spend a couple days working out at third before making his first start against the Mariners. Opening day starter Bill Mueller is recovering from knee surgery and is expected to be out until late July.

He will spend five days in extended spring training as a DH, and then move on to Triple-A Las Vegas for two weeks where he will play shortstop and second base. Izturis was originally expected to be back right after the All-Star break. "It's going to be as soon as we can get him out there," Little said. "Pitchers go through the same thing when they come back from operations like that. They feel good, feel good, feel good. Then, all of a sudden, they go through a period where they don't feel good. That's the same thing Itzy's going through right now."
