Ben Broussard, whose 13 hits in his last 30 at-bats coming into Sunday's affair against the Giants, hit a two-run home run -- his second long-ball of the spring. At this point it will be tough for Ron Washington to to keep Broussard out of the opening day lineup. Mark it down, Broussard is the starting first baseman for the Rangers.
March 20, 2008
Manager Ron Washington has called Ben Broussard a sleeper for this season as he commented, "I always liked this guy when I saw him play in Cleveland, and when I had an opportunity to get him to be my first baseman, I jumped at it. He brings good defense. He's a good teammate and he certainly gets a lot of big hits. He's certainly going to get the opportunity to go out there every day." This according to the USA Today.
March 4, 2008
The left-handed hitting Ben Broussard won't be sitting against southpaws this year. "I don't want him coming to the park every day wondering if he's going to play against a left-hander," manager Ron Washington said in the Dallas Morning News. "He's going to play against them until he proves he can't." Broussard has batted just .227 in his career against lefties (as opposed to .275 against righties), so we're betting it won't take Washington long to change his mind and sit his first baseman most of the time with a left-hander on the mound.
