Veteran Jeff DaVanon , who signed Minor League contract with an invitation to Major League camp with the Padres, were released on Saturday, according to MLB.com. DaVanon, a 34-year-old outfielder, has played in the Major Leagues more than six years with the Athletics, Diamondbacks and Angels. He hit .213 in 39 games last season with the Diamondbacks and A's. DaVanon has a career. 295 average in 528 games in the Majors.

The Padres officially signed Jeff DaVanon to a minor-league deal Thursday. DaVanon agreed in principle to a deal last month. He'll compete for a bench job in spring training.

Jeff DaVanon received a routine day off Saturday, the AP reports. He's 9-for-30 so far with the Athletics, though seven of his hits have been singles and he's yet to collect a homer or stolen base.

The A's signed Jeff DaVanon to a minor league contract on Saturday. He was assigned to Triple-A Sacramento. DaVanon had hit just .154 for the Diamondbacks after returning from ankle and labrum surgeries, but he could join the A's next month if he proves capable of hitting the ball in the minors.

Jeff DaVanon, who has yet to play this season after undergoing offseason ankle and labrum surgeries, was activated from the disabled after Monday's game, according to the Arizona Republic. He hit .321 in a 16-game rehab assignment. The D'Backs will most likely use DaVanon as a reserve outfielder.
