Jeff DaVanon recently underwent a procedure to remove a cyst from his right shoulder, according to the Arizona Republic. He already was recovering from season-ending ankle surgery performed in August. He should be ready for spring training, though. The Diamondbacks have already picked up his option for 2007.

Early reports had Jeff DaVanon undergoing surgery Wednesday to repair a split tendon in his left ankle, but it ended up being a damaged ligament in his foot that needed to be repaired, according to the Arizona Republic. "They inserted a screw and everything went well, but it was more the ligament and not so much the tendon," manager Bob Melvin said. DaVanon is expected to require about three months to recover.

Jeff DaVanon will require season-ending surgery on his injured left ankle, according to the Arizona Republic. GM Josh Byrnes said that DaVanon has a split tendon in his left ankle. The recovery time from the surgery will be three to five months, so DaVanon should be fine once spring training rolls around.

Due to the fact that Eric Byrnes has been on a tear, Jeff DaVanon has seen his playing time diminish recently. Although DaVanon started the year in a platoon with Byrnes and got the nod against right handed pitchers, DaVanon has started only two of the last eight games with righties on the hill. Don't expect to see DaVanon in the outfield too often until Byrnes begins to cool down.

The Diamondbacks reached agreement Tuesday on a one-year, $525,000 contract with Jeff DaVanon, according to the Arizona Republic. DaVanon could be used often in Arizona, backing up Eric Byrnes and providing relief for Luis Gonzalez and Shawn Green.
