Danys Baez has a partial tear in his right elbow and will likely miss the rest of the season, the AP reports. Manager Dave Trembley said Baez will seek a second opinion after an MRI exam Friday revealed the partial tear. Jamie Walker is probably the most likely candidate for saves with Baez out. Baez was pretty much a sham as a closer anyway - he hasn't pitched well all year (6.44 ERA, 1.57 ratio).

Tired of using Jamie Walker and Chad Bradford in the closer role, manager Dave Trembley announced on Friday that Danys Baez would take over as the Orioles closer, according to the AP. "He's closed games before," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said before Friday night's game against the Devil Rays. "He's got the most experience." Baez becomes an immediate add in all formats.

Manager Dave Trembley has stated that he would like to get away from using Jamie Walker and Chad Bradford to close games, which means that Danys Baez may be the most likely option to take over the full-time closer role for the Orioles with Chris Ray sidelined, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I don't really like to keep going to Bradford and Walker," Trembley said. "That's not what their role is. They've done it, but I still think in the long run, it's going to catch up to you if you continue to do it." Baez, who saved 41 games for Tampa Bay in 2004, holds a 2.84 ERA in his last six appearances.

Danys Baez missed Tuesday's contest due to an illness, but he rejoined the team on Wednesday and pitched a scoreless eighth inning, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I feel a little bit better now," he said before last night's game. "I had that virus, and it's been a tough week for my house and for me."

Danys Baez will begin his rehab assignment from an injured forearm on Thursday. The Baltimore Sun reports he’ll also pitch on Saturday and Monday. Baez’s outing on Monday is slated to last longer than an inning and he may be back right after the break. With Chris Ray’s struggles, Baez is a sleeper to pick up some saves and those in deep leagues should take notice.

Danys Baez got through a bullpen session Saturday without any discomfort in his tender forearm. As a result, he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment on Thursday, according to the Baltimore Sun. Barring a setback, he should come off the disabled list on July 12.
