Matt Treanor is catching and hitting, and he hopes to begin a rehab assignment or play in a simulated game by the end of this week. MLB.com reports. The catcher is on the DL due to a strained left hip.

Updating a previous report, Matt Treanor has officially been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained lower abdomen.

Matt Treanor could be headed for the DL, according to FishStripes.com. He aggravated a nagging lower abdominal strain on Monday night, and he will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the ailment. If the team is forced to shelve him, Mike Rabelo and John Baker at Triple-A Albuquerque would be top candidates to replace him.
