The Devil Rays signed Carl Crawford to a six-year contract on Friday that could be worth more than $31 million, according to the Sports Network. The agreement includes two one-year club options covering the 2009 and 2010 seasons, Crawford's first two years of free agency. Crawford batted .296 with 11 homers, 55 RBI and 59 stolen bases last season.

Saying he considers Carl Crawford the best left fielder in the game, Devil Rays manager Lou Piniella has decided to move Crawford back to left, with Alex Sanchez playing center field and Aubrey Huff handling right, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Crawford had been expected to fill in in center until Rocco Baldelli returned from a knee injury.
