As expected, the Devil Rays activated Ty Wigginton from the DL on Friday. He had been out with a broken left hand. Wigginton was hitting .267 with 18 dingers and 57 RBI before going down with the injury.

The St. Petersburg Times reports that Ty Wigginton probably won't play again until at least Monday or Tuesday. He was unable to play Saturday after straining his back during Friday's game. "I feel I'll be ready in a couple of days," Wigginton said. Tomas Perez likely will continue starting at third base until Wigginton is ready to return.

The Tampa Tribune reports that Ty Wigginton seemingly has locked up a roster spot with the Devil Rays by showing his versatility. He's played first, second, short, third and left field this spring. He's also practiced at catcher, though he has yet to appear in a game behind the plate. "I said, 'Whoa, we might have more here than we know,' " manager Joe Maddon said. "He comes into camp and I'm watching him at third and at first and I'm saying, 'Dang, this guy's got great feet.' "

The Devil Rays agreed Tuesday to a $675,000, one-year contract with Ty Wigginton, according to the AP. He was the Pirates opening day third baseman last season and hit .258 with seven homers and 25 RBI in 57 games but was released on December 8th.
