Ramon Santiago has a reliable glove and a strong arm, but the Tigers do not view the 29-year-old as a full-time shortstop, according to the Detroit News. GM Dave Dombrowski said, "We've said it many times. We like him. But there's a difference between playing somebody every day. You're talking 150 games, and that's a lot of baseball at the major league level. Our gut instinct is that he would have a hard time handling that. You never know, but it's a gut instinct. I'm not saying that as we weigh our options that it might not be something that ends up happening. We have different spots we're trying to fill, and only so much free-agent cash involved."
