Brett Myers allowed five earned runs on six hits over five innings in Friday's 8-5 win over the Dodgers in Game 2 of the NLCS at Citizens Bank Park, with four walks and six strikeouts. As a hitter, he impressively went 3-for-3 in the game with three RBI. Philadelphia now leads the series 2-0.

Brett Myers is finally pitching like the ace he was -- and is presumed to be. He has a 1.49 ERA in his past five starts with 23 strikeouts in his last three starts (23.2 innings). The right-hander 3-1 with a 1.94 ERA in six starts since returning from a stint in Triple-A. His only losing effort came against the LA Dodgers, a game he could easily have won. Myers faces the Dodgers again tonight, and his 2.86 ERA in 11 career appearances against the Big Blue gives him a chance to continue his winning ways.

In fact there is no evidence that any decision has even been made. Myers remains in limbo for his next start, scheduled for Thursday in Atlanta "I'll have it by Tuesday, probably," Manuel said. The AP is reporting that right-hander Brett Myers could be pulled from the Phillies rotation and put back in the bullpen as Brad Lidge's setup man. Since winning two straight decisions in mid-April, Myers (3-9, 5.84 ERA in 17 starts) is 1-8 in his last 13 starts. "I talked to (Myers) for quite a while. He's struggling and trying to find it. Whatever he tries doesn't seem to work," Manuel said. "I'll think about what I want to do the next few days and we'll come up with something. We don't have a lot of options."

The right-handed opening day starter for the Phils has been long-tossing, as pitching coach Rich Dubee had suggested. This, in the attempt to build arm strength. He also has looked at film. Myers, who will start tomorrow night against the San Francisco Giants at Citizens Bank Park, recently looked at film from starts last season against the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros. He thinks his lack of velocity has more to do with his legs than his arm. "I wasn't using my legs as much as I thought I was," Myers said. "In my last start [in Pittsburgh], my leg was straight and I wasn't getting any drive off of it."

He's usually a 90-to-94 guy," manager Charlie Manuel tells the Philadelphia Daily News. "(On Saturday) he was throwing some breaking balls and looked like he was throwing splits, a changeup every now and then, mixing the fastball in, but he didn't have the velocity or the command on the fastball that he usually has." Brett Myers has been performing well as he left the bullpen to re-join the Phillies' rotation, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. He has been the only starter who has been consistently solid this spring and said this about leaving his closer's role, "I liked closing last year. That's no secret. But I like starting, too, because I'm getting the opportunity to pitch. I'm not going to be a selfish guy and whine and complain because they had to make a move. I'm not that type of guy. It's a little easier in spring training, because we're all pretty much spread out all over the place, and there's plenty of things going on. "Absolutely," Myers said, asked if he was shocked. "[Cole] Hamels had a great year last year. "It's going to be hard for me to take over that No. 1 one spot after he had that year, so I'm going to have to work a little bit harder to earn that spot." Sounds like Manuel's giving Myers a little gift for returning to the rotation after spending most of last season in the bullpen. Hamels will start the Phillies' second contest.
