Alex Cintron made his second straight start at shortstop on Friday night, but manager Bob Melvin made it clear that Royce Clayton is still his regular shortstop, according to the Arizona Republic. "But Alex really isn't a backup guy, he isn't a bench player," Melvin said of Cintron. "He's a guy that gives you more than that, so at times I'll run him in there at third one day, short, then give (Craig Counsell) a day (off) at second."

The Arizona Republic reports that Alex Cintron will be taking it easy the next few days to rest a tight left hamstring. "He's been playing so well that I just want to make sure we get this out of the way before we get going," manager Bob Melvin said.
