Alex Cintron was waived by the White Sox Wednesday to open up a roster spot for the freshly-signed Scott Linebrink. Cintron played in 68 games in 2007, hitting .243 with two homers and 19 RBI.

Alex Cintron was placed on the restricted list on Tuesday by Major League Baseball after his bereavement leave expired, the AP reports. Ozzie Guillen said he wanted Cintron to stay in Puerto Rico with his ailing mother until Cintron felt comfortable returning to the team. "His mom is fine, everything's fine," Guillen said. "But I told him I don't want him to come back here, then go back to Puerto Rico. So I told him to be sure when you get here, you're here for good. He should be here in the next couple days."

Alex Cintron still isn't fully recovered from his offseason elbow surgery. He still is dealing with problems with the joint, according to the Chicago Tribune. That might help explain his Mendoza-ish .203 batting average on the season. Considering that the procedure was performed in January, it's a tad troubling that it's still an issue, though. It's possible he could get some added rest to try to get him over the problem.

Alex Cintron says he is "90 percent" healthy after having elbow surgery in January, the Chicago Tribune reports. "I have to get more comfortable throwing," he said. "I'm still a little shaky. Sometimes in spring training you protect yourself and you try to take care of your arm. I didn't want to miss any games. But now the season starts, and I have to be ready to go."
