Mark Ellis will meet the A's during their trip to Seattle beginning next Wednesday and will test his right shoulder by playing catch, according to the Mercury News. Declared out for the season with a dislocated right shoulder, he's recovering much faster than expected. However, trainer Larry Davis cautioned that players tend to slow down their recovery once they start throwing.

Although Mark Ellis said he hopes to return from his dislocated shoulder injury late this season, he's still expected to remain sidelined until next year, according to the Contra Costa Times. "I think Mark is a little optimistic," head trainer Larry Davis said. "We haven't considered that. We don't have a schedule for him. We're just letting him heal at his own pace. It's nice that he has those thoughts though."

A's trainer Larry Davis indicated that Mark Ellis will probably avoid surgery on his torn labrum, according to the AP. "It will probably be longer than eight weeks, but how much longer is yet to be determined," Beane said. The extent of Ellis' injury will be known after he undergoes a second MRI exam in about a week.
