A's manager Ken Macha said he anticipates Mark Ellis batting leadoff next season, according to the Contra Costa Times. "I'm a big believer in earning your spots, and Ellis earned the leadoff spot," he said. "Where that puts everybody else, I can't lay it out."

Mark Ellis got a rare start at shortstop on Saturday and could continue to get playing time there while Bobby Crosby is out with an injury. That will allow Ken Macha to get both Ellis and Keith Ginter in the lineup at the same time.
