Mark Ellis is awaiting a second opinon from Dr. Lewis Yocum about shoulder surgery and may have an old injury repaired along with a more recent one should he undergo any operation, according to the SF Chronicle. Before the 2004 campaign, Ellis tore the labrum in his right shoulder in a brutal collision with Bobby Crosby, but nerve damage in the shoulder was too severe for surgery to be performed. Ellis rehabbed the shoulder, but the labrum is still torn.

Mark Ellis was the A's hitting star on Saturday as he scored a run and had three RBI in addition to two hits against the Indians. Ellis had started the year mired in a 1-for-17 slump, so this was a welcome bust out for the second baseman. Ellis hit 19 HR with 76 RBI last season, and while he may not be able to match those numbers this season he should still be a solid middle infield option in mixed leagues.
