His fingers were numb and he had significant swelling on the injured area, but no bones were broken. He said, "It's just a lot of pain. It doesn't have a lot of grip right now. Catcher Brian Schneider returned to action for the Mets on Saturday, working through five innings without incident after missing the last 10 games with a strained right hamstring, according to MLB.com. He wasn't too inspiring at the plate, failing to get a ball out of the infield (though his two hits to 2B were solid), but Schneider reports all running and fielding work were accomplished free of pain. "Even when I ran today, everything felt good," Schneider said. "I didn't feel it one bit -- not a twinge, nothing. It was a good day in that respect." Schneider is expected to work with a rotation that may carry the fate of the Mets in '08 and was acquired for his defensive skills behind the plate. Getting him in action and working behind home without issue is a great sign as Opening Day approaches.

Santana pitched well and Schneider had this to say after the game, "I talked to him before the game and wanted him to shake me off as much as possible and make sure he threw his kind of game. I don't want him going out there and just throwing what fingers I put down. When I see how he throws, the different patterns, that's when I learn the most from him.
