The Cubs have reached an agreement to acquire Juan Pierre from the Marlins in exchange for Sergio Mitre and two minor league pitchers: Ricky Nolasco and Renyel Pinto. Pierre will be the center fielder and leadoff hitter for the Cubs.

Marlins manager Jack McKeon held Juan Pierre out of the starting lineup yesterday because he thinks Pierre is pressing, according to the Miami Herald. "Anybody who is in a month-long slump like that is going to be trying extra hard to get out of it," McKeon said. "But you can't do it all at once." Pierre is hitting only .185 over his last 16 games and has been thrown out stealing eight times in 14 steal attempts.

Juan Pierre was not in the Marlins' starting lineup on Saturday because manager Jack McKeon wanted to give him a day off after he was slowed by a calf injury in spring training, according to the AP. Pierre later entered the game, but he saw his streaks of 1,700 consecutive innings played and 299 starts ended. "We figured it was time to give him a day," McKeon said. "Let's have him for the whole season. ... He wants to play, but we want him for the whole year. We've got a good ballclub. We'll start giving a few of these guys a day off."

Juan Pierre got into a game with his Marlins' teammates yesterday for the first time since hurting his calf three weeks ago, according to the Sun-Sentinel. In an exhibition against the Marlins' Single-A franchise, he got a hit and a steal in six at-bats, but he said he was over the injury and ready for Tuesday's opener.
