Aaron Harang, who left his last start with back spasms, is close to being ready to return, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. There's a good chance he'll be able to make his next start on Tuesday.

Aaron Harang won't be able to start against the Pirates on Saturday due to back spasms, the Dayton Daily News reports. The club planned to use Victor Santos in his place, but Santos pitched three innings on Thursday.

An MRI on Aaron Harang's lower back Sunday revealed no structural damage, but the right-hander will still miss his next scheduled start, which was slated for Thursday. However, he could make a start in the weekend series against the Pirates. Harang left Saturday's start after one inning because of pain in his back. "They thought it was better to take me out rather than take a chance on hurting my arm," Harang told the AP. "Hopefully, it's just one of those 48-hour tweaks."

The Reds activated Aaron Harang from the bereavement list Monday. Harang had been out of action since last Thursday due to the death of his grandfather, though he did not miss any starts, according to Sports Network. He will get the ball tonight against Milwaukee Ricky Stone was sent to Triple-A Louisville.

Aaron Harang asked out of Wednesday's game after six innings and 101 pitches, though he says he did it for fatigue reasons and not because of a sore back, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "I was just tired from throwing so many pitches in the fourth and fifth innings," he said. "I thought it would be best (that I come out). The bullpen had been so good."

Aaron Harang agreed to a four-year, $36.5 million deal with the Reds on Tuesday, according to the AP. The contract includes a club option for 2011. Harang won 16 games with the Reds in 2006, sporting a 3.76 ERA along with a 8.3 K/9 rate.
