The Mariners traded Rafael Soriano to Atlanta for Horacio Ramirez on Wednesday, according to ESPN.com. Soriano posted a 2.25 ERA and a 9.8 K/9 rate in 53 games with Seattle last year. He'll serve as a setup man to Bob Wickman in Atlanta.

"CT scans looked good and we are not concerned at this time that he has a brain injury other than a concussion," Mariners team physician Dr. Edward Khalfayan said. "We expect him to recover from this injury with no long term residual effects." Soriano will be re-examined in two weeks.

Mariners physician Dr. Edward Khalfayan said an MRI and CT scan taken at a hospital offered results that were "reassuring." Soriano was kept at the hospital overnight for further observation.

Rafael Soriano was carted off the field after being hit in the head by a line drive from the Angels Vladimir Guerrero Tuesday night, according to the AP. Guerrero lined a first-pitch fastball off the right side of Soriano's head and the ball deflected almost to the Angels dugout along the third-base line. Soriano tried to protect himself but could not get his glove up in time. He never appeared to lose consciousness and could be seen moving his legs.

The Mariners seriously considered placing Rafael Soriano back on the disabled list yesterday, but decided to keep him active for now, according to the Seattle Times. His velocity was down Monday night due to some neck pain. Manager Mike Hargrove said the pain is ongoing from Soriano's previous trip to the DL for arm fatigue.

Soriano had similar difficulties at the beginning of July, but was given five days of rest and felt much better. Though he is day-to-day, he could end up on the DL. Even though the Mariners are trying to downplay the issue, the sore shoulder of Rafael Soriano is acting up again, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Though manager Mike Hargrove says that Soriano does not have an injury, the series against the Red Sox marked the second time in a month that the M's have elected to give him some time off. "He should be fine for the Blue Jays," Hargrove said. "We think it's just a little sore, and we don't want it to become a big deal."
